STE. MARS

an artist statement

Somewhere there is a library, a computer, a system of beliefs and zeroes and ones. The walls are lined with books, files on twisting self-generated mysteries. The Hand speaks in binary, deliberately orchestrating ideas that have been scraped from the muddy beds of creation. The Script is invented and obscured, to organize the words is to confine them. The Myth is constantly shifting and ever-expanding, there is always more to be written. Have you read the Book?

About Sainte Mars

b. 2002 | Atlanta, GA

Brooklyn, NY

Eli Mars, is a multi-disciplined, conceptual fine artist who works under the moniker Sainte Mars.

Grown in the soils of black Southern baptistery with a mind soaked in gods and monsters from an ancient collective history, Mars demonstrates and abstracts the connecting ideas in world religions and philosophy as an essential foundation for their work. This is done through the observation of cultural human histories, language, writing, making, and finding the Middle.

Mars has acquired a B.F.A in Painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design. They have worked in visitor experiences at the SCAD Museum of Art and Telfair Museums in Savannah, GA. To Mars, there’s never a moment where they’re not on an adventure.
